LAST RESORT

Even though it should be considered the absolute last resort in resolving your financial problems, getting started with the process of filing for bankruptcy seems to be getting less and less complex – despite the strict new laws put in place in 2005.  In fact there is an Atlanta bankruptcy law firm that offers somewhat of a “fast food” equivalent of the old bankruptcy interview process.  It used to take someone hours of preparation to gather up all of the financial documentation required, and then the actual interview process could take another hour or two while their paperwork was reviewed before they even knew if they were a good candidate.  Now all you have to do is download a short form online, complete it and fax or e-mail it to the office.  The firm states on their website that the completion of the form should take an individual no more than five minutes and once it’s received it can be reviewed in a matter of minutes as well.  They also state that if someone fills out the short form completely and accurately that it is a perfect gage of whether or not bankruptcy is an appropriate option for someone’s financial situation.  I’m all for making life easier, but I don’t know whether something like bankruptcy should be able to be started so easily, I think something so serious should take a little more time to pursue.
